The first release of the Portuguese label Kokölò comes from the no-face- entity that is Rave Child, the label's creator.
Kokölò can mean many things, depending on who is hearing this seemingly odd word. It can be a birds song, a child's made up word, a game, a place... But for us, it means to move forward! And this sentence clearly describes the ethos of the label that has just been brought to life in early 2022, in Portugal. Its purpose is to not focus on a single genre of electronic music, but to convey a specific mood... or a state of freedom.
With "The Birth EP", Rave Child is literally being born. It is the beginning of a project in which the artist shows his understanding of rave music - with all its naivety and euphoria - while trying to catch the feeling of a soul discovering the dance floor for the first time.
The two first tracks of the EP were mastered by Connor Dalton, at Calyx, and the latter one by Andreas Lubich aka Loop-o, at his own mastering studio, however, all of them are connected by a substantial use of breaks, chopped voices and dreamy melodies. One can also hear that each single one of them uniquely displays the nostalgia we all feel towards the innocence of our childhood years. Moments of play, immersion and presence, that are filled with an inherent wish of utopian infinity.
This is also shown in the artwork of the must-watch young illustrator David Duarte.
Keep an eye out for future releases on Kokölò. Expect more music by Rave Child and from like-minded artists he has connected with. Releases by Alfonsvs, Adriana Ruas, and remixes by the likes of .Vril and Answer Code Request are already on the pipeline.
